CDTA Wants Brand Recognition

I came across an interesting article on “branding” in one of my local papers. The article, What’s blue, gold and travels? talks about how the Capital District Transit Authority is seeking to build brand recognition for their services. The CDTA services include “a Northway commuter line between Albany (NY) and Saratoga Springs (NY), suburban shuttle connectors and traditional city neighborhood routes in Albany (NY), Schenectady (NY) and Troy (NY).”
With the new branding CDTA said there is the possibility of a new logo, as well as a better system for customers to be able to recognize routes and vehicles. They wish to “simplify transit services, reach out to new customers and tailor its route system to modern-day demands as part of an overall Transit Development Plan.”
I will be very interested to see how they go about working towards these goals. In particular, what new identity they develop to replace the 25 year old logo that now represents the CDTA. I will do a follow up once they reveal some more information about their plans and the logo.
With speaking of “branding” I had to share this photo that I took this weekend at the Adirondack Balloon Festival. This is a perfect example of working towards strong brand recognition. Target made themselves very noticable at this years festival!

That CDTA logo wouldn’t be half bad if it didn’t have the stripes!
So you live “upstate”? I originally come from Binghamton but now live right outside New York City. You’d be amazed how many New Yorkers down here don’t know there is anything past Poughkeepsie!
