Clash of Giants: Adobe versus Microsoft

Adobe vs MicrosoftThere has been a lot of news lately about the clash going on between Adobe and Microsoft. Apparently, negotiations dealing with Adobe’s PDF software being included with the new Windows OS Vista and MS Office have broken down leading Microsoft to believe that they will be hit with a lawsuit.

With Adobe’s recent growth due to the purchase of Macromedia, they are becoming an even larger software powerhouse. This doesn’t go without challenge from Microsoft who is now trying to compete with Adobe on the graphics editing front by releasing its own set of software. As interesting as it may be, I personally don’t see Adobe users any where near ready to jump ship over to Microsoft. Adobe has established a good base of customers because their products are top notch. Microsoft is going to have to do some pretty amazing things if they expect designers using Adobe products to even glance over at their software.

According to the article “What’s the next move for Adobe? WITH NEWLY ACQUIRED MACROMEDIA, IT PLANS TO RENDER WINDOWS `IRRELEVANT,’ ITS CEO SAYS By John Boudreau of Mercury News…

“Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, though, believes it will be tough for Microsoft to win over many Adobe loyalists. He surveyed 45 Adobe professionals at a recent convention, and more than 90 percent said they had no interest in switching to a Microsoft creative professional product.”

It sure sounds like Microsoft is going to have their work cut out for them if they want to take a bite out of the Adobe market.
