Design Trend = Run Away!
I caught a really good post on Jeff Fisher’s bLog-oMotives today. Jeff has his own little sayings that he posts every once in awhile. He calls them Jeffism. Today’s post was infact Jeffism #7. Basically what was stated was that when a design trend is noticed it is already past its prime.
Many clients have trouble with this idea and it’s up to us as designers to steer them away from such a downfall. Too many times we see clients AND their designers jumping on the newest trend bandwagon and doing what everyone else is doing. This, in my opinion and obviously Jeff’s, is a classic mistake designers make.
A perfect example of such an action is when the “swoosh” trend was upon us. You found logos everywhere that incorporated the swoosh. It was such over kill during it’s time that it got dubbed the “Millennium Swoosh.” Even still today we find some designers are hanging on to the trend. There are many more out there just like the Millennium Swoosh and if you care to share any of them, please do.
So to back up what Jeff said, the next time a design trend is announced…as a designer I recommend you run quickly the other way!
