Today it was announced that Oliver Lincoln Lundquist passed away December 28th, 2008 from Prostate Cancer. Lundquist, as an industrial and architect designer, led the team that created the U.N. logo back in 1945. He and his team were responsible for designing the graphics and badge for the United Nations Conference in San Francisco that year.

The NY Times did a nice article on Oliver Lincoln Lundquist, which explained a little about the design of the U.N. logo…

The distinctive blue in the design, Mr. Lundquist explained, was “the opposite of red, the war color.” He continued, “It was a gray blue, a little different than the modern United Nations flag.”

The U.N. logo is iconic and memorable. It is a true symbol of peace as well as great design.

It’s a new year and it’s time to revive the Prepressology blog. The end of 2008 was a busy one with a promotion at my full time job to Vice President of Digital Print Division and a trip to San Francisco for Adobe MAX. It sounds like 2009 is going to be yet another busy year with some good things lined up. My first trade show for my full time job and a new line of labels to promote to commercial printers.

There is always a lot of buzz on the net about design, logos, branding, software, hardware and many other things having to do with print and design. It is my goal to do a better job of bringing some of my own insight to these items. Hope you will visit often and feel free to comment when you want. Look forward to more interaction on here in 2009!
