InDesign CS: Right Side Pallet Docking
I must say that I love this function in InDesign. I don’t mean just like, I mean LOVE! Who ever decided to add this ability to the CS version was a genius. I just have one question though…why not the rest of the CS programs?
It seems as though, this feature in InDesign should have been a function built into Illustrator and Photoshop. It only makes sense to me. I am actually surprised it wasn’t put in one of those programs before InDesign. Illustrator and Photoshop usually require the most amount of viewable working space. Don’t get me wrong, so does InDesign. I just think that the other two tend to be the ones that people complain more about because of not having enough room.
I do realize that the bigger monitors allow more viewable working space but some of us just can’t justify upgrading to the 21+ inch monitors yet or justify having more than one monitor on our tiny little desks. I also realize you can shrink the pallets to almost nothing by double clicking on the name on the tab. It just isn’t the same though. You still have them overtop of what you are working on, in most cases. The ability to shrink them flush against the right side of the screen is so much cleaner and so much better.
It was a bit of a disappointment because when CS2 came out this ability to dock and hide your pallets on the right side still had not been added to Photoshop and Illustrator. I can’t believe that I am one of a few that find this a great thing. I would think that Illustrators and Digital Artists would find this ability to be helpful. Almost all of the designers that I have talked to that use InDesign on a daily basis love this function.
Are they going to make this available in CS3 for the all the programs? If so, then let us all rejoice! If not… What is stopping them?
