Lamina Has a New Identity and VP Talks About It
I am a logo nut. Plain and simple! I always want to know when the new logos come out and that is why I enjoy sites such as Brand New and Love Design Love. Well I did a little search on Google News for logo news, identity news and branding news to see what stuff was out there. I found a really good write up on the new Lamina identity.
Lamina is an innovator of LED lighting systems and technologies. The new logo looks pretty cool and really gives the appearance of a light. The color choice is good in my opinion because most people associate a bluish light with LED lighting. The font for the company name is futuristic, which I feel gives attention to the companies innovative spirit. What I found very interesting is the interview with the VP of Marketing, Dan Polito on the Lamina website. There are only a few questions but I think they cover the meaning behind the new identity and how it was brought about. I particularly like the question about how the re-branding experience was. Here is a link to the entire interview, Q & A with Dan Polito, Vice President of Marketing. I thought the following line was inspiring…
“Though our goal was to continually aspire to lofty standards in these areas, we have now advanced to the point where our new corporate identity truly stands for a new company - - it’s not just a new logo.“
I think more corporations or even small businesses need to have such an interview. It is a great way for the marketing department to really connect with the public. Obviously as a designer I tend to enjoy these types of write ups and/or interviews. It would be great to see more of them.

I have to disagree with you on the logo. I’m not a huge fan, though I appreciate why you are. But I definitely enjoyed the article, especially the links to the logo sites. I’m going to subscribe to them both. I really love logo work and am interested to gain some insight as to how companies pick them and the design process.
