London 2012 Olympic Logo

London 2012 Olympic Logo Taughnee posted today on a sister blog, The Whine Cooler, that the London Olympic logo has been unveiled. The unveiling of the new London 2012 Olympic Logo is not being met with very good response. According to many blog comments people are not finding this logo represents London or the Olympic Games very well.

The logo definitely went by way of the abstract but in my opinion I feel it went a little too far. It appears the idea was for the jagged pieces to represent the date 2012. Honestly, I did not see that at first and still had trouble seeing it even after I read that it was there. There is even talk from the organization that the logo is brand savvy and flexible. Except for the Olympic rings in the piece representing the zero, what is to make me think this has anything to do with the Olympics or even London for that matter? How is that doing a good job of branding?

A lot of times a new logo is picked on by the design community and sometimes we can get overly critical of a design because we are so passionate about what we do. However, I can not blame the community for speaking openly about their dislike of this logo. I too join that voice of disappointment.
