I actually first heard about the new software upgrade from Apple for the iPod Nano and 5th generation iPods on my local news. Just like the early 80s when there was the concern about boom boxes and personal tape players with headset, the iPods are causing a new wave of warning from doctors. It only makes sense. After all it is a device that pumps noise right into your ears directly. There is very little chance for it to break down.

Another cause for the concern is the the new style of head phones, the earbuds. With the buds going directly in the ear, it means it is that much closer to your ear drum.

I think it’s a smart move and it is going to save a lot of people from having issues with their hearing down the road. If you haven’t upgraded, I highly recommend it. If you have kids that use these products I strongly urge you to get them to upgrade. They may be resistant but they need to be careful. Hearing loss could become a huge issue for them if they aren’t.
