REVIEW: VECTORVAULT - Alpha, Beta and Gamma

I am sure many of you have seen vector art being used in everything from postcards to web graphics to tv commercials these days. There seems to be a growing trend to use vector art within advertising. Hiring an illustrator to create custom vector art can be time consuming and expensive, so a lot of smaller businesses tend to turn to vector clip art.VECTORVAULT is a collection of vector clip art that claims to be “the source for the finer details of your designs.” Currently three combination vaults of 250 Royalty Free Vector Images are available under the names Alpha, Beta and Gamma. Each is then broken down into individual vaults of 50 Royalty Free Vector Images.

The variety of vector clip art is extensive and many of the pieces are not normally what you expect to find within a clip art collection. It is also nice to find a lesser amount of cartoon-like characters and more real life images like vehicles, buildings, people and everyday objects. It is also nice to see that from vault collection to vault collection there is no repeated vector art.

The collections are available for immediate download through VECTORVAULT’s website where navigation is easy and ordering is pretty straight forward. You can find samples of the clip art on the site, as well as samples of projects completed using the clip art from the VECTORVAULT series. Contacting customer service when questions arose is quick and the response is professionally handled.VECTORVAULT does fall short in some areas. There is no easy navigation system and the art is just organized by a number system in a series of folders by chapters within the vault. There is a contact sheet for your viewing and corresponding numbers do make it possible to locate something but not having a search system does make things take longer than you might expect.

Much of the vector art is unimpressive and in some ways a bit lacking in structure. The idea of vector is the ability to edit an image and make it a bit unique. It is unfortunate to see that in many cases the detail of the picture is lost. However the images, as you see from some of the project samples on the site, do tend to fit a certain trend of design and could easily be used for those projects.

There are a few fun vectors within the vaults but overall the collect does not seem to give as much support as a designer or business might require.
