Steve Jobs Will Own Disney

No really, I am not kidding! Yesterday there was a huge announcement that Pixar is being bought by Disney for $7.4 billion worth of stock. After all the scuffling that was going on between Disney and Pixar back in January 2004, it seems a bit surprising that a year later this would happen. More surprising though is what the deal is going to do. The deal is going to make Steve Jobs the largest share holder of Disney stock. According to an article on ZDNet put out yesterday,

“Pixar shareholders will receive 2.3 Disney shares for every Pixar share they own, a move that will make Jobs the largest individual shareholder of Disney.”

As shocking as it is that Jobs will own so much of Disney, I am pretty excited to see Pixar back with Disney. Pixar has been an amazing pioneer in the use of technological advancement for animation. I was blown away by “Toy Story” when if first came out. The animation was flawless and almost too realistic! Pixar continued its streak of unbeatable hits with “Toy Story 2,” “A Bug’s Life,” and a few others. My personal favorite, “The Incredibles” came out back in 2004. There were actually times in that movie when I wasn’t sure if I was watching animation or live action. One particular instance that blew me away was when the mother and her two kids were floating in the water. The water looked amazingly real. As a huge fan of EVERYTHING Pixar has made, I am really happy to see them back with Disney.

Also according to the article,

“…Disney has emerged as a major iTunes partner for Apple, with Jobs and newly installed Disney CEO Robert Iger appearing onstage at last year’s launch of the video iPod.”

iTunes has done some amazing things for music and now video. With Disney being such a huge partner, it will be interesting to see what else they are able to do. Pixar has already made all of their “shorts” available on iTunes and I have heard that they may release (if they haven’t already) exclusive “shorts” for iTunes.

I look forward to seeing what comes out of the Pixar/Disney collaboration in the near future. With Apple growing more and more every day and now this huge deal with Pixar and Disney, Jobs has to be flying pretty darn high these days. Look out Gates; you might not be the big man on top of the money mountain much longer!
