Where Does the Third Thumb Come From?
I only have two. I think you probably have only two. So where does the third thumb for the Three Thumbs Up award come from? I just don’t know!
Honestly I am just joking around. It was just a fun way to open this up.
I first heard about this award on the NO!SPEC website that I wrote about a few days ago. The logo, which you can see right below my RSS feed, received the award. Being a younger designer, I thought it was just another award out there amoung the ones that designers can receive. Well, I guess this award is not “just another award.”
Today, I came across a post in Designorati’s Creative Culture section about this new award. The post, Three Thumbs Up! talks about the purpose of this new award. Started by Von Glischka of Glischka Studios, these awards are…
“To reward the individual artist who demonstrates creativity and the artistic pursuit of excellence on a consistent basis.”
After gaining your free membership to the site, you can post your work for all to see. With the ability to post, you can show off samples of your work in hopes of receiving constructive criticism to help you improve your work. Hopefully improving to the caliber worthy of a Three Thumbs Up award.
I think this is a great way for unknown, as well as known designers to get their work seen. It is a way to share and inspire each other. The whole concept is about promoting better art and design through sharing. As the site put it…
“We at the ‘Three Thumbs Up Award’ are sick of looking at crappy art. We want to encourage and facilitate the pursuit of great art and reward it when we can. It’s that simple.”
I think this is a great way of going about doing just that. It will be fun to follow and see who receives this new award. I personally haven’t posted anything yet but I hope to someday; maybe even receive an award. I encourage you to join the site and post your own art and design. It’s going to be a lot of fun!!
